VISION  + Values

balanced vision

"On the Vision of being the Mayor of Maui County..."

I am proud and completely humbled for the opportunity to become Mayor of Maui County.  Maui County is my home.  For the past forty years, it has been my privilege to serve the Maui County community in the private, public and non-profit sectors. My journey has prepared me for this moment in time.

Local Values.

What are "Local Values?"
Local Values – we all have them…Family First. Work Hard. Be Responsible. Be Respectful. Be Honest. Help Community.
These values are why so many people have moved to Hawai'i and Maui County over the years, its the kama'ina way.
We love sharing our local values with everyone, they embody the Aloha spirit.

"Values have no color, no ethnicity. Values aren’t political."
My story is similar to so many people in our community…the story of America is one of immigration.
My great-grandfather came to Hawai'i in 1871 to work on the plantation.  As immigrants we were welcomed to Hawai'i and everyone had to get along. Those who came before us learned how to adopt and adapt to other cultures and we theirs.

"Life in the Hawaiian islands is unique."
When you live on an island you must be aware of your neighbors and how you impact them. For Hawai'i it means...
No talk stink. Don’t close off your beach access. and above all, Helping one another. It's Us and We NOT Them or Me.

"Living in Hawai'i  and Maui County is "special."
In Hawai'i you are taught as keiki to...Welcome all. Bring more than you take. Leave things better than you found it.

And that’s what I will bring as your Mayor, a Balanced Vision
thru Leadership, Collaboration, and Experience.

Let’s keep Maui nō ka 'oi for our future generations through our Local Values.

infrastructure.

"It is key to maintain, improve and grow Maui Counties Infrastructure thereby ensuring our  economic growth."
Hear Mike explain how he intends to accomplish his Infrastructure goals for Maui County in these four videos.

Economic diversity.

We’ve been talking about Hawaiʻi’s “brain drain” for several years now – our young people go
to college on the mainland and end up staying there because the career opportunities here are limited.
Now consider, that when we lose our youth, our culture goes with them, and eventually so does our way of life.
Hear Mike's vision for retaining and bring Maui's children home.

homelessness.

There are several reasons for homelessness and there is no silver bullet that will solve everyone’s problems, so we must consider all ideas to solve this crisis by working collaboratively with state and federal partners and non-profits.
Picture

agriculture.

One thing we can all agree on is that keeping Central Maui productive and green is in the best interest of our community and economy. Farming has changed over the years and our future farmers, ranchers and land stewards need the right
education, skills and support to grow our food.  Hear how Mike plans to help grow the next generation of farmers, attain food security and minimize our dependence upon imported food.
Picture

environment.

"Maui County must lessen human impacts on our environment – water, land, air. We
need to fix what is broken and stop causing more harm."  Mike shares his thoughts on Maui Counties coral reef health, water quality, watershed protection, clean energy, invasive species, prevention and recycling.
